Where's the Actual Facts, British Columbia? — WTAF BC is independent citizen journalism for BC residents. We cover topics related to government and the forces that shape our Crown democracy — the things that affect our daily lives in one way or another.

What we cover

  • ‣  BC, municipal, and Federal Canadian politics — elections, legislation, and the decisions made by the people we elect to govern us, and Federal Canadian affairs that affect us in BC
  • ‣  Housing, land use, and resource extraction — who gets what, and who decides
  • ‣  Privacy and surveillance — data collection, CPIPA enforcement, and how BC residents' information is used
  • ‣  Indigenous rights and Crown accountability — treaty obligations, unceded territory, and reconciliation in practice
  • ‣  Community-level stories — the things happening in BC that connect us to each other and to the broader world

How it works

WTAF BC combines three things: a curated feed of news from around the province, original reporting and opinion from local contributors, and tips submitted directly by BC residents.

Everything is written or selected by people who live here. We're not a wire service and we're not funded by a media conglomerate. We try to take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously — a sense of humour goes a long way when covering the things governments get up to. Opinion and commentary sit alongside straight reporting.
